You can claim ₹15,000 as HRA exemption — 60% of your HRA is tax-free, leaving ₹10,000 taxable.

How this calculator works

HRA exemption under Section 10(13A) is the least of three amounts: your actual HRA received, rent paid minus 10% of your basic salary, or 50%/40% of your basic salary depending on whether you live in a metro city.

Worked example: with a basic salary of ₹50,000/month, HRA of ₹25,000/month, and rent of ₹20,000/month in a metro city, your exemption is ₹15,000/month (the least of ₹25,000 HRA, ₹15,000 rent-minus-10%, and ₹25,000 city limit) — leaving ₹10,000/month of your HRA taxable.
